- A simple brushing and vacuuming once a week or at least once a month will reduce wear and tear.
- Dust also your furniture regularly by using a soft damp cloth.
- If you notice a loose thread, cut it off and tuck the exposed end back into the fabric. Never pull it!
Pilling is a characteristic of many upholstered fabrics that results in excess fibre coming off of the surface of the material. This release of excess fibre results in small balls or pills of fibre forming on the surface of the cover. This condition is not warranted by the fabric mills because it is not seen to be a defect, it is simply excess material being released. The pilling will persist until the excess fibre is gone and then it will cease. The best treatment while this is happening is simply to shave the cover with a battery-operated furniture or sweater shaver to remove the pills and restore the look of the cover surface. This may need to be done multiple times, but the pilling on the surface will begin to diminish and ultimately stop.
STAIN AND DIRT REMOVAL ADVICE
- Act immediately. Use a special spot cleaner or fabric cleaner.
- For wet stains, absorb as much of the liquid as possible with paper towels or a soft cloth before starting the cleaning process.
- If spills or stains are excessive, we advise contacting a professional upholstery cleaner, or use a specialized fabric cleaning service.

All cushions filled with foam will soften with use and will conform to the shape of the user, but should not lose resiliency or the ability to recover from compression.
Polyester wraps, used to create surface softness will, over time, lose some of the initial loft, which may contribute to cushion flattening and wrinkling. This softening is considered normal wear and is no way considered a manufacturer’s defect.
Other components filled or wrapped with foam & fiber like backs and arms will also flatten slightly with prolonged use.
The dacron fibre and feather fibre filled cushions and pillows will flatten, wrinkle and deform after continuous use. We suggest you fluff these pillows / cushions as you would fluff the feather or down pillow you sleep on.
Feather wrapped foam core cushions consist of a 2.0 lb foam core surrounded by a 50/50 blend of feather and polyester fibre, encased in a channeled feather-proof ticking. While this breathable ticking is feather-proof, and creates a feather barrier, feathers will poke through the fabric as expected. This is considered normal performance and is not a defect. Feather wrapped foam core seat and back cushions will have a “relaxed and wrinkled” appearance. These cushions and pillows will require frequent flipping and fluffing. This seating can be very comfortable but does take maintenance to look its best.
Upholstery fabrics are under limited warranty for one (1) year against seam slippage, fraying and dye transfer, but only if any cleaning conforms to industry standard methods. This warranty does not cover wearing, nap loss, wrinkling, fading, pilling or fabric that has been treated with aftermarket fabric treatments or fabrics exposed to pets. The crushing of fabric, velvet and microfiber, is a characteristic of these soft and fluffy fabrics and are not considered as manufacturing defects. Due to the chemical make-up of certain fabric fibres, ScanDesigns cannot warrant any problem which may result from exposure to excessive heat or sunlight. We do not warrant any fabrics supplied by customers (COM).
Claims due to cuts, burns, stains, soiling, pet damage, and after market fabric protectant and improper cleaning are excluded. Do not remove covers for cleaning;

Pilling– Pilling is a characteristic of many upholstered fabrics that results in excess fibre coming off of the surface of the material. This release of excess fibre results in small balls or pills of fibre forming on the surface of the cover. This condition is not warranted by the fabric mills because it is not seen to be a defect, it is simply excess material being released. This is similar to the fuzzing experienced with new carpet or the pilling of a new sweater. The concern on the part of most consumers is that the fabric is disintegrating and will ultimately leave a bald area on the cover. That is not the case; as with carpets and sweaters, the pilling will persist until the excess fibre is gone and then it will cease. The best treatment while this is happening is simply to shave the cover with a battery-operated furniture or sweater shaver to remove the pills and restore the look of the cover surface. This may need to be done three or four times, but the pilling on the surface will begin to diminish and ultimately stop.
The warranty does not cover defects or damage caused by, or resulting in negligence by the user or mover of the product or accident, improper care, maintenance, repair and failure to follow directions of proper use.
